Modified RB300 & Goldring 1042
I want to get my RB300 arm on my Rega Planar 3 modified by Origin Live and then fit a Goldring 1042.
Will I need a VTA adjuster fitted to the arm base get the 1042 catridge rake angle correct?
Anyone out there done it and got some advice/tricks on how best to do it?
😕

Goldring an Rega...
if my memory serves me correctly Goldring builds the Rega cartridges. THe Rega MM cartridges and the Goldring cartridges share the same body. No VTA spacers or adjusters should be required, as per Mr. Gandy's wish.

I have now a RB250 with the 1042. Sounds good, but the resonance is a bit low (less than 10Hz in my case).
🙂
Thanks for both answers - I didn't know Goldring built the Rega cartridges but it sure solves the problem if the shells are the same size.
I think I will buy the Goldring 1042 now given your comments.
Cheers

The Goldring 1042 seems fine on the RB300- but the bodies of the Rega cartridges are not identical to the Goldring 1000 series. Of course the height might be the same anyway...

Have you ever seen these MM, Rega & Goldring, cartridges side-by-side? Or, even their pictures over the net? They do not bear any resemblance. Besides, the Rega has three holes for mounting and the Goldring has only two.
Please look at these cartridges at their respective websites -

As far as height of the two series, Rega and Goldring 1000 series, are concerned, they are about the same and you'll not need any VTA adjustments.
IMO, if the prices are about the same or thereabout and you do not have to stretch too much, get the Dynavector DV105X (or whatever their #). Your MM phone stage can handle this cart as its a high output one and it'll, imho, give you better value for your hard earned $ then either the Rega or Goldring.
