What do the moderators of this site listen to, equipment wise? All diy, hybrid?
After listening to holiday music on my hybrid diy, store bought system, my wife commented on how good the music sounds. Which made me wonder about the moderators?

My system is dynamic. As in it changes fairly often.
Today: MacMini > Shitt Gungnir > Shitt Freya > Firstwatt SIT-3 > diy Mar-Kel70T (my design someone elses build). Modified Rega 2 with Linn Basic/Garrot P77 into a diy tube RIAA.
I’m thinking of seeing if i can hook up my subs in a way that does not induce hum (diy with Foster plate amps).
A diy EL84 PP on the kitchen counter, a number of diy chipamps downstairs and at least one commercial and one diy tube amps. Lots and lots of diy speakers.

Cool. I've heard of the SIT-3 and I own a Modified Rega2, the rest I'll spend the next few hours on Google.
To quote Zen Mod "pics"?
I really want to see your speakers.
Thanks, Bill

Mine also changes often - partly because I move house a lot.

Thanks for asking. All good fun.
At present it's
- A pair of vintage Magnepans and a Yamaha HT amp, both from the Goodwill thrift shop $70 for the set up 🙂
- Also a revamped Rek-O-Kut Rondine Jr with Muffsy preamp.
- Before that is was Manzanita Open Baffle in lava cave.
- Before that it was modified Altec A5 with amps I built in a listening room I built.

Not a picture from today, but the speakers in the system. I’ll get a current pic later today.

Mostly made of douglas fir flooring that had been down for 70 years.
The woofers they are sitting on are still downstairs.
dave
I love the top-grain Doug fir floors. I had a house in Tacoma, made in 1896 that had that...
Nice collection of speakers too, thanks for sharing!

Until i get decent pics of teh current system, there is some eye candy here:
miniOnken/Fonken gallery pictures only
The 1st ones were the starting point for the ones i am listening to.

I would like to contribute to the thread but let's just say I have too many things hooked up making noise to start listing it. For example, I have one room over at the other place that has 37 transducers in use for the music and HT systems. A great many of the speakers are diy but not all. I have Klipsh Forte's on the big TV at the condo and Dahlquist Profiles on another.
I have 33 sets of speakers, around 20 of which are diy and oodles of goodies to make more.
Then there's the storage areas.

My main setup is a pair of speakers of my own design in collaboration with forum member smnjn. These use a Volt B2549 woofer with a Satori MW13P-4 mid and the TW29RN-B tweeter. Crossover is second order on each slope, pretty much textbook.
These are powered by whatever amplifier I happen to have at the moment, and right now they are a DIY 3-pair lateral Mosfet Class-A monoblocks with Jensen transformers at the input. This tends to change a bit as folks come over to listen, generally I don't tend to have amplifiers for very long.
DAC is a Gustard X-20 Pro and transport is an Intel NUC. Songs are stored on a portable hard drive, with three backups on a two different servers. I use Daphile for playback, with songs stored on a portable hard drive.
Like any other member who's been at this a while, I have too many to list. I have probably a little less than Cal and Dave, but I still think I have 10 systems each with its own source, amp and speakers, plus three pairs waiting for the pandemic to be over so they can be built.

I only have 2 functioning systems at the moment. The other a Myriad CD > diyAudio LM3875 in AudioSector case>FA22 in refurbed KEF Calinda boxes.
I do have more than enuff bits to put together a few more systems.

My system is mostly DIY.
I have a couple of Morel MTM's of my own design, with passive crossover which is fourth order accoustic bessel at 2.8Khz Beneath these as stands are a couple of wretched chipboard enclosures that were given to me in 1985, they are 70L BR boxes tuned to about 30 Hz with Vifa M26W-0908's in them.
The crossover between the Vifa's and the MTM's is an analogue active crossover of my own design, which is 4th order bessel (accoustic) 3rd order electrical, which has a gyrator for the HP and an FDNR for the low pass. The crossover is also the "pre-amp" in that it has a volume control and selector switch that can choose between four inputs. The buffers used in the crossover are DC B1's.
The MTM's are currently driven by my Electronics Australia Series 200 lateral mosfet amplifier which I built in 1987. This was an integrated amplifier, but I have bypassed the preamp so it is only used as a power amp.
The Woofers are currently driven by my P2P LM3886 amp (it used to be the other way around, but the MTM's have quite low impedance (dip to about 3 ohms) and it struggled a bit.
At present the balance is out with the bass being too strong, as the LM3886 has much more gain than the msofet amp, I didn't put any pots on the LP section when I made it because the highpass had the amp with the higher gain. I need to remedy that!
Source generally one of:
Marantz DV-18 (used as CD player)
HT-PC (self built running ubuntu and mythtv)
Loewe Art TV, which was a bequeath (via chromecast)
I do have a nice DAC (Fetaudio FDA-1) that I made but I have never completed the metalwork for the case, hoping to do that this Christmas, whilst I have access to a drill press.
I have boards, fets, mosfets, and roughly half the parts for a complementary output BA3, but I have not started to build it.
Tony.

Cal, you ever get one of your big systems up on a big roof? One of my best listening revelations was when I put my teenage speakers up on a low-sloping roof edge, so I could listen while replacing shingles up higher. Floor - and nothing else.
"It's a new sonic integrity check" When really...

Back in the Sound Hounds days we we used t haul the hifi up to the roof to have something to listen too while sunbathing.
Tangent RS4s, driven by whatever, and a Linn LP12. Sounded very good.

Mid: Hiraga/Hifisonix style CFA, class A
Each with choke input supplies on separate chassis.
DIY speakers.
Mid/upper: OS waveguide.
Mid/lower: Have recently tried.. Direct/Hypex/LeCleach/Array/Corner loaded waveguide, currently trying Synergy
Bass: Multi-Subs.. soon to try on wall bass array.
