Moderating

Why no more discussion of world events?

What a shame that the majority has to suffer because of a few unruly members. What a terrible shame that the moderation decided to punish all of us for such instead of just using a strong even hand to mop up the problem posters, seems to be the way of things these days, a few cry and moan, then the whole machine comes to a halt because nobody has the gumption or ability to properly judge and execute simple courtesy rules. IMO the fault lies squarely on the moderation not the members, there will always be a few who don’t play nice, that’s what moderation is for, not just to drop a bomb and wipe out the whole lot to kill a ant hill.

As childish as some of the posts and posters are IMO it’s even a more childish position by the moderation to shut down all political talk. I personal don’t know of any place where such interesting conversations take place, if I did I suppose I would go there.

Well I guess I’ll just keep my posting over at the loudspeaker forum from now on, I’ll miss the interesting multinational POV of world events that has generated so many enlightening discussions here, but everything comes to an end, especially in this politically correct don’t dare hurt anyone’s feelings world we live in now.

I suppose my POV no matter how respectfully put or in-line with the forum rules will be deleted, especially if I hit on some truths, seems everybody is offended by the truth these days.

Ta, Ta.

The problem is that these topics attract the "problem posters" like horse poop attracts flies. Worse, people who are ordinarily quite reasonable and polite seem to undergo a metamorphosis when talking about sensitive issues. I wish it weren't true, but it too often is.

The problem as I see it is that the moderators punish the second guy hitting back instead of the actual offender, it's just like school all over again. When someone starts a fight the teacher walks in and sees the kid defending himself without realizing what was going on, and out of laziness and inability to understand what action should be taken, the teacher takes the easy out and punishes both or just the one they saw fighting, no thought or desire to look any deeper.

And when I say the “second guy hitting back” I don’t mean personal attacks, I mean a passive aggressive statement within the rules to make a rebuttal. Why is the rebuttal seen as a breach of rules and not the antagonist who is obviously being disrespectful, must we live by kindergarten rules here. The guys who can’t take the heat should get out of the kitchen instead of just burning the kitchen down so nobody can cook.

Stuart is totally right but if you really want to discuss politics, almost every other audio forum have a corner for that the thing is that we are so many.

Let me test you:

Was it right of US to bomb Kuwait, Veitnam, Iran, Korea?

Is it right of China to bomb Taiwan?

Was it right of Germany to do as they did under the second world war?

Was it right of Japan to bomb Pearl Harbour?

If somebody starts to answer these questions you surely have a food fight.

how about more moderation for proper forum?

I go 1st to ss but i seem to find several posts per page that are clearly ps / parts or everything else audio

I’m sure this is due to ss's popularity but it defeats the point of having forum topics

when new threads get pushed off the 1st page in less than a day it is less likely they will spark interesting discussions

reducing "pollution" by off topic posts is a minor help but i think it should be more actively pursued - I don't like "reporting" these threads to get them moved but if its agreed that's acceptable use of reporting I would do it more often

I’m also seeing a lot of amp repair / schematic / part sub requests - do we need a separate forum or could the parts forum's mandate be expanded to cover these?

I value solid state amplification forum's discussions of design theory and seeing a large variety of diy circuits but its getting harder to find and follow these threads

This is totally acceptable -- we actually encourage it. The forum is far too big for the small number of mods to be everywhere, so member assistance is greatly appreciated.

Congratulations to SY, I guess.........

Wow, 4 whole months without having to send someone to the Sin Bin. Must be doing something right, eh, bub?

I know......it is that scary avatar that keeps all the malcontents (like me!) and ne'er-do-wells in order.

Whatever he reason, the gang needs to be recogised for doing a decent job.

Tomorrow we will go back to throwing rocks at you, so don't get complacent.

Dude.........

you should know better to leave me an opening that big................

Blame Canada........blame Canada.......!

I thought the moderators were supposed to send offensive posts to Texas (we luv 'em!), and not delete 4 whole pages just because they are part signal, part noise.

You know it has to be good when one of your top commercial posters thinks the same way.

Keep up the good work, guys. I'll crawl back into my hole now............far, far away from all the NOSsers.

Doing something right?

Jocko, we have over 50000 members, we must be doing something right. We don't force you to post here. Doesn't moderating your own site keep you busy enough? 🙂

How many people smoke and drink? Are they doing something right?

This forum fails by it's own success. To get a bit of useful information I have to spit through sooo many posts of nitwits, pseudo scientists, wiz-kids, self-appointed experts, gurus etc.
And the real experts like Fred Dieckmann, Walt Jung and Jocko have long gone.

:clown:

Answering all the e-mails from your disgruntled members actually takes more time. I just tried to answer a handful at once.

Reading them, you may reach another conclusion. But, it is your site........moderate it anyway you like. It ends up amusing us to death pretty much no matter how you do it.

For the moderators

Ignoring members' oppinions is not the way to go.
You know, on my country every store opened to the public is by law forced to have a 'reclamation' book, in which clients that feel they were presented with a bad service can write what they have to say.
Let's say this thread is such book, and others where some pertinent questions are raised.
Ignoring what 'clients' say and look at the sky to see if it's raining is not the attitude we expect.
You must listen, argue if you must, and learn something from experience to try to improve the 'service'.

I think something in the line of ebay's 'feedback' for the sellers and buyers applied here to members and moderators could make this a more peaceful place.
