Modding ing an M-Audio Transit?

Hi,

Any DIYers out there tried modding an M-Audio Transit in order to use it as a USB to SPDIF interface for their DAC? I realize that there is at least one company offering this as a service however I was hoping that someone had also tried it at home.

My guess is that DAC manufacturers will start adding USB connectors soon however it would be nice to hack a Transit to do this on one's own DAC.

Best,

Paul

I have one of these to do exactly what you suggest.

Problem is you need to figure out how to tap into the TORX toslink sender to get the raw SPDIF, plus you need to figure out where to feed it clean power and separate it from the PC USB power.

Tiny PCB, and at first glance it seemed like it would take a while to figure out how to do. I think building one from scratch with your own PCB is probably not much more difficult, plus you'll be able to bypass the SPDIF and use a direct I2S connection.

I'll take a closer look at my Transit in a week or two, when my current DAC project is finished far enough to think about the USB interface

Thanks for the replies. It seems like PCAudio is sort of uncharted territory, especially if you want to DIY.

Hey Bas. How do you like the DaKKit. I am sort of laying behind the log waiting to hear some reports. I wish that they would add a USB input to it.

Best,

Paul

Hi Paul,

You mean the RAKK dac? ;-)

Just last night I actually fixed the PSU as suggested by Dave Davenport...finally started hearing what the fuss was all about...

So I've just got to listening really...gotte hear it in a better system first before I go public 😉

Here are some remarks by others

I suppose the only thing they might make though is a usb/spdif conversion for the RAKK dac. a pure USB solution would have to be done from scratch I think...

Cheers,
Bas
