Modding a store bought pj

The title says it all.

What i would like to do is mod a store bought pj (JVC DLA RS1) to get more lumens and turn this already awesome pj into a light cannon so i can project a 170" image on SMX screen material and get in the nieghbourhood of 20-30 ft lamberts. This would not be possible with the current 700 Ansi lumen max output this pj normally has. I think i know how to do it already but wanted to ask the experts here at the DIY audio forum if they think its even possible. What I want to do is use a 400 watt or 2 MH bulb behind the pj and use lenses to focus the light output from these large bulbs into the hole where the normal stock lamp is inserted.

am i crazy, or could this actually work?

RS1 with 2000 Ansi lumen output 😎

P.S the pj will be mounted in a room behind the HT so i won't see the big ugly box behind the pj😉

A thought comes to mind, will the projector work without the original bulb in place? you my have to trick it into thinking the original bulb is still there even though it isnt. as far as a "light engine" what I mean by that is a 250w MH bulb with a reflector behind it and a condensor lens in front. you could make a small metal holder to house the components. in your case you will want to get a lens to focus the arc to a point where the original bulb was instead of a condensor to spread the light out. a good idea would be to put a UV filter in there too. can you post any pics? any ideas you have?

Never gonna work

No offense to others who have chimed in but...

What you're asking is to take one or more 250/400 mh bulbs, and all of the heat and size problems that they have, somehow design a light engine box that will condense and intensify the light through the chamber to the panels without losing focus or brilliance and with the same exact beam as the original lamp, keep the heat issue in check so you don't either (a) burn the projector or (b) burn down the house all the while trying to trick a brand-new 2007 $6k state-of-the-art 1080p projector that there is a lamp. And to add to that, make it brighter than the original lamp.

I think by the time you've heard from enough people (and enough suggestions), you're better off buying a new lamp or getting the existing lamp professionally relamped once it dies.

Yes this forum does design an build (and even modify) projectors but you're asking for, I'm pretty sure no one will give you a scenario that is actually better than the original configuration.
