Hi Everyone!
I am New heure and im looking for the plan of the MK3 XL horn speaker.
I have made the 10$ donation, but dont know where to look.
Have any Idea?
Thanks!✌️

My best guess is these... Tang Band W8-2145 8" Paper Cone Full Range Driver 8 Ohm
Will the XL take 8" drivers?
Will the XL take 8" drivers?
I have XL and thought 6 inch was about it but may be wrong.
FWIW I found tweaks to avoid baffle diffraction pay dividends.

No. You'd have to go up to the "Joan" size enclosure for 8" drivers.

Joan was designed for the Alpair 12P which is actually a 6 1/2in driver with an 8in basket. It will be acoustically undersized for the Tang Band, which really requires a larger enclosure given its higher Qt and Vas. I'll check tomorrow (it's the middle of the night here and I'm on my laptop, so I can't at this precise moment), but off the top of my head and based on fallible memory it may go in OK.

By the looks of it, similar can be said for that Tang Band. The total frame width is 8.8 inches, but it looks like the frame + surround is about 1.5 inches all the way around which puts the cone much closer to 6 inches. Actually, the cone + surround dimension is listed as 7.48 inches, so I'd say the driver is no more than 6.5.

Easy enough to draw comparisons about cone area: just look at Sd. 😉 TB is rated at 220cm^2. The 12P (for example) 147.41cm^2.
It's because of variations like this that I tend to use approximates regions of driver emitting surface rather than basket diameter. The latter worked fine when there was somewhat less variation in basket materials (and to a point surround design) but less so now, so rated Sd gives IMO a better rapid comparative basis between units purely in effective / acoustic size terms.

Frugel-Horn Mk3 and Frugel-Horn lite plans are free for non-commercial use. The Frugel-Horn
Joan can be had the same way FHXL is, email me your diyAudio donation receipt and i will send links to the plans.
What driver have you posted the picture of? We can get Scott to see if it is suitable. I suspect Joan’s slightly different alignment may not be as flexible wrt drivers as the smaller ones.
