I am interested in making a 2 way 6 1/2" driver and 25 mm tweeter vented speaker. Is it okay if I buy different brands or is this reccomended against?
I think it depends more on the specific drivers than what brand they are of. I use Audax woofers and Morel tweeters in my speakers and I think it sound a lot better than when I used Audax tweeters.

tsz is correct. There are certain t/s parameters that you should try to match, and in a two way, efficiency should perhaps be the most important similarity between the two.
Pete Boyer:
Both professional companies and home builders do it all the time-the woofer from one company, the tweeter from another. In fact, it seems to be more the rule than the exception.
Bryan:
I agree with you about the relative sensitivity of the two drivers, (being within 1 or 2 db), being of paramount importance. But I don't think such Thiele-Small parameters as Qts, Vas and Vb have much significance up in the tweeter crossover range.

Keltic: I couldn't agree more. The only other one I was referring to is the Fs of the tweeter. It should be low enough so that it can be integrated properly with the 6 1/2 inch driver. Almost nothing is worse than the sound you get from some midrange/midbass drivers that have been crossed over too high.
