Hi:
I am wondering if the arm base and audio cable components that came with a Mission 775S are physically unique to that table, or will some other arm fit an ‘orphaned’ arm base+cable.
I suppose someone will be curious how/why such a question even comes to mind.
The short answer is I bought it in the 80’s with a different arm installed and the removed parts included. I had 4 turntables at the same time then and a lot of reconfiguration took place. The arm on the Mission I think was some kind of Grace (707Mk II?). It got moved to a CJ Walker, the Mission got a Linn LVV (I think...the silver one). A 2nd CJ Walker came with a Magnepan Unipivot the store thought was broken because you can’t balance such an arm with no cartridge...so I got a bargain & had Magnepan/Magneplanar refurbish it for a 1980’s song. The Magnepan ended up on a Thorens (model I don’t recall & it’s in a box DEEP in the basement shelves. Both CJ’s went to other people.
I’ve tried offering the Mission to family members but it needs an arm & cartridge. None are serious/interested enough to go through the effort (if I bought parts & set it up & delivered it the story might be different).
I’m doubtful it’s worth chasing an orphaned Mission arm (774S?) at this point & am trying to scheme what kind of Franken-table is the easiest path to pursue.
I have a spare Linn LVX in a box somewhere in unknown condition (a flood victim sent to me for my amusement - I rebuilt the LVV vertical bearing ***’y back when I still had vision to see the parts).
I’ve never had a use for the Mission arm base/cable but maybe I need a different
problem for the solution on hand.
Or someone else needs it & I give it to them. I think it has a ‘bore’ something around or under 5/8” but I don’t know if there were ever ‘standards’.
Thank you
