mission 753 Repacement Tweeter Saga

Not wanting to bore people with the long running saga regarding the doomed 753 tweeters , I was wondering if there was anyone out there that had experimented with different branded Tweeters and whether they had any success.

I'm still loathed to throw out my 753's and want to have a bash at putting new life into these. I cant find an original spec for the tweeters other than there 4 Ohms so its difficult to match them.

If anyone has had a go I would appreciate your experience

Thx for the reply. I've checked the voice coils on both tweeters and the circuits are open, inspection confirms the damage, replacement tweeters and voice coils are no longer available.Visual inspection of the XO looks okay nothing fried.

The original tweeter is 4 Ohms but cant find any further info.

I was wonder whether anyone had used a none mission tweeter on these speakers with any success, as I know that these were popular and given the availability of parts.

I realise that the drivers need to be carefully matched to XO, being a newb what be the pit falls of -

a. just fitting another decent 4 ohm tweeter

b. fitting a 6 or 8 ohm unit with additional resistors ( and what these might be) in parrallel

c. not blowing up the rest of the speakers and half the neighbourhood

Unfortunatley I dont have a scematic not the equipment (only a MM ) to make one.
I'm a complete newb at speaker modding and repairs, I'm ok with a soldering iron but my idea of a resistor is something 8mm long , not the size of a house brick, so you must excuse me.

read the article regarding the rebuilding of the fried 753's which was really interesting.

Will check out the other options. I have that 'feeling' that this may become obsessive, as long as it does'nt become compulsive🙂

What's the voice coil/dome size? Would you like to have a metal dome or textile? Does price matter? You see there is this (new) tweeter from Audax that looks very good on paper/specs and that could work well but I don't know how to implement it for you, this is, if you are interested in this crazy adventure and if it is adaptable or not in it's mechanical dimensions.:wrench:

Hi,

we've just repaired the tweeters of MISSION 753. As we can't get replacement drivers either from MISSION nor from PEERLESS (difficult times for the PEERLESS guys since they were bouht by Tymphany) we looked for another tweeter that fits into the front grille without too much mechanical modification.

We finally used a CAR POWER DT-284S from MONACOR. This need only minor modification of the X-over, too.

We will issue a report on the tweak in a few days . . .
