Dave I have some observations
Test 1
8.5mm added to each side of the central vent spacer
+ Bass notes more extended and detailed
- Out of box floaty imaging completly gone
Test 2
8.5mm added to outside walls
+ Bass notes more extended and detailed
- Out of box imaging still gone but noticable improvement over test 1
Test 3
8.5mm added to the middle of each vent 2 vents now become 4
+ Bass notes more extended and detailed
- Detached out of box sound still not present but best result out of the three tests so far
Next step going to try adding some chamfers to the top edges of the 8.5mm infill pieces at the point where the sound waves entre the vent at the back of the box.
Also tried adding and subtracting some nylon fill internally best result were achieved with a light stuffing of fill in the top half section only.
Its been a fun afternoon.
Currently back to no infill pieces floaty detached out of box sound image is back. Bass not so extended and clean in comparison but the large out of box sound is beguiling.
I'm wondering maybe if the slight bass bloom is helping with the detachment of sound from speaker effect expereanced without the infill pieces.

Where can I aquire the design plans for a ONKEN/FONKEN design using vintage JBL 2205H woofer?

Trapezoidal Onken for Lowther PM6A. Thanks to David Dlugos of Planet 10 HiFi for the bespoke design. 18mm Baltic Birch plywood, solid red oak vent spacers. Finished with 12 coats of amber shellac and a top coat blend of orange oil, beeswax, and carnauba wax. I've only listened for a couple hours so far but they sound superb.
Also pictured are mFonkens for Fostex FE103Sol and MarkAudio Alpair 10P.

Edit: For some reason a few of the thumbnails appear sideways, but they correct when you click to open the larger version.

uFonken inspired
These are not built from any of Dave's specific plans, but there were certainly heavily influenced by his Fonken's and sized to be close to the uFonkens. Made of solid ambrosia maple with walnut accents/spacers. FF85s. My first try at building my own speakers.

Trapezoidal dMar-KenA11wT for Alpair 11ms
Thanks Dave for the plans. I have finished some Trapezoidal dMar-Ken for theAlpair11ms. They are made from recycled solid Marri (with some help from marine ply for the internal sides) with western red cedar vent spacers.

The Mark-Ken family grows...
here are the finished pics of the mMar-Ken7ms for the Alpair 7ms and the dMar-KenA11R for the Alpair 11ms. They are the centre channel and rears for a surround setup. Thanks Dave@planet10hifi for the plans. They all sound great and the depth / fidelity from the millisize mMar-Ken7ms defy their size. I've got some more pics of the construction - let me know if anyone wants me to post them?

telliottaus,
G'day!
Congratulations on your multiple Planet10 Mar-Ken builds - you have been busy! 🙂
Build pics are always interesting to see, and please share some when you get the time.
And enjoy the music (and movies) with your new speakers!

some build pics of the marken family..
here are some build pics - hope they're ok in this thread.
For the trapezoidal ones, Marri was used as the timber - not the best wood for speakers but matched my sister's furniture where the speakers are all going. they are 18mm thick and are quite heavy. 18mm thick all round used marine ply for the inner sides as didn't have enough of the same marri. Was a bit messy with the glue for the bits I was going to cut off!!😀
For the western red cedar vent spacers I clamped the outside together and used spacers to get them in the right place repeatably.
for the second mmar-ken7ms I used the slot cutter on my router to cut some tight fitting slots to make assembly easier.
Hope they're of help to someone...

Thanx for posting these pictures. The squat profile of these A11ms boxes works out quite well. I particularily love the wood you used on the trapezoidal ones!

Hi Dave, there is a plan available for this ¨bass module¨? it needs to be bi-amp? Thanks
Yes. It is in the standard planset, so if you already have µFonkenSET then you just need a plan update. email me.
