I'm about to build and hook up two powered subs and I would like to use a miniDSP to highpass and adjust audio for the main speakers. I want to do this in the digital domain however, which leaves me thinking I'm going to need two dacs.
I dont have a preamp, I dont mind building one but I believe it would still leave me with the same problem.
I've drawn a quick chart. I feel like I'm overlooking something really simple here but if anyone could suggest a way of of doing this configuration using the miniDSP in digital I would be hugely appreciative!

In general your setup looks good (I assume that miniDIGI actually means miniDIGI + miniDSP), however please note that miniDIGI only has one digital output.
But you could use the analog outputs of the miniDSP for the subs (the quality of the build in DACs should be sufficient for the subs!) and the digital output of the miniDIGI + an external high quality DAC for the main speakers.
Volume control can be handled analog after the DACs but also in the digital domain using miniDSPs build in master volume control.
If you want to realize IR remote control: I have left over one almost finished controlboard for miniDSP + miniDIGI (input and volume control with display). If you are interested let me know 🙂

You would need two miniDigi and a DSP board i think for this to work.
miniDSP 2x8 is another option. Can add on volume control, and digital source selection with their boards. Might be able to route out the digital signal through the XLR and coax.
Awaiting mine...

Just wanted to add one remark to avoid any missunderstandings:
Also with miniDSP 2x8 + miniDIGI or DIGI-FP you will have max. 2ch digital output. The three outputs on DIGI-FP (SPDIF RCA and optical and AES/EBU) and the two (SPDIF RCA and optical) are parallel.
Two miniDIGI with miniDSP 2x4 will work (miniDSP DevTeam will help with implementation). Not sure if this would also be possible with 2x8.
Best regards
