I have a Yamaha RX-V1 HT receiver. It has main out and main in. When I try to go balanced in and out with the Minidsp in the Pre-out/main in the levels drop way below the surround speakers (~7DB). I have to use unbalanced in with the jumpers closed to set to the .9v positions and the dip switches set to the up 8v position. Set this way I get a unity gain thru the DSP. However if I turn the preamp up too high, it will distort. I believe I am overdriving the input of the DSP. It would be nice to have the headroom of the balanced inputs.
@ Swantzilla,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Sounds like this is a post that we already answered (via email maybe). For the sake of information, it sounds like it's more of a mismatched gain between in/out on your yamaha receiver. (See datasheet).
The miniDSP does have unity gain when you have input & output jumpers correctly configured for Low or High levels.
Let us know if you have any questions.
