Mikasa or Saburo in my living room?

I'm interested to build a full-range driver horn, and particularly interested in the Saburo or Mikasa.

Before I start, I thought I better get some advice.

My listening room is one of these combined living room/dining room deals. The longest wall is 24', the dining room opening up to the livingroom area that is 15' by 13'.

Current speaker position is against the 24' wall, firing across the 13' width of the living room area.

(geez, this is becoming so convoluted, I'm beginning to have trouble picturing my own house from my description).

Will either of these speakers work for my room?

I'll be driving them with a modernized Dynaco ST 70 (22ish watts).

Other speakers I should consider if these are really wrong?

Thanks,

Brenton

On Christie Rd? Her name's not Mary?!

Seriously, it must be a pretty common style bungalow of the late 50's - early 60's for Calgary, so you're probably envisioning it pretty darn accurately.

Thanks for this reply, Dave.

8 ft out from the wall will mean I need to... Hmmmm. Make my living room a dedicated listening room.

More than 3 or 4 ft is going to be a problem.

Is there another horn speaker that can back up closer to a wall?

Brenton

PS

I better read that thread. Thanks for the link.

Phew!

I was envisioning a very awkward re-deployment of living room furniture, and some (more) derisive jeering from my gal!

Thanks Scott. My current listening position accomodates... maybe 10 feet from the speakers if they're up against the wall.

Probably I'd want to change my speaker position with these so they fire down the length of the room.

Do they need to be 4, 5 or so feet from the wall, or is that a TBA type of deal that depends on experimentation?

Thanks,

Brenton

Both my parents & my gramma lived in Brentwood up by the University. On the occassions i was in town and my dad had Stampeder tickets we'd walk to the stadium.

No. Keep them out of a corner, and a bit out from the wall would be a good starting point.

Ok, this sounds very do-able, then. I can just switch out the present speakers, where they are, for these big boys. One speaker is... 6 or more feet from the corner, the other... 11 or 12 or so.

Dave, Brentwood is a hop skip and a jump away. I'm just off 19th, a block north of the golf course. Your parents and grandparents probably had the same layout as me. A lot of these bungalows still remain in the area.
