Microphone Stand

just curious, what type of microphone stands do you guys use for measurement, and do you treat the stand in any way? I've been using a rigged up music stand and was considering a boom mic stand.

I use a boom stand. I've seen other use more elaborate rigs, Lynn Olson does, I think.

I use a tripod with a 4' stick strapped to the top. I've used boom stands and like them, but if I were going to buy one, I'd get the stands that photographers use (they are very sturdy):

I have a regular boom stand and a tabletop-style tripod. Neither was expensive and they're a useful convenience. I like to do a bit of recording, though, it would be a pain without stands, particularly for acoustic guitar.

My mic capsule is on the end of a 36" long 1/4" diameter tube. The other end of the tube has a little aluminum block (about 3/8" wide) that I can attach to a camera tripod. I have a little tripod I bought off ebay for ~$10 and a bigger one for an old school vhs video camera if I need more height. Both of these setups do a reasonable job of avoiding creating large reflective surfaces in places that can reflect sound back to the mic capsule.

cool! anyone happen to know what type of stand the threaded microphone mount that is included with the Dayton measurement mic is supposed to connect to? Looks too big to be a camera tripod, perhaps this connection is some sort of standard in the music industry?
