Micro-Semiconductor.com in HK is a SCAM!

I'm posting this so that others can avoid any purchases from this company. Summary: Once I sent them money I never heard from them again.

This is a company that is supposedly located in Hong Kong. The have a very extensive web site. Looks legit, and so I thought it was.

I placed an RFQ via the web site's form, and got a reply email from a Mr Andy Lee with an official looking signature bearing the company logo. I explained what I wanted to order (some NLA Peerless drivers) and the quantity. He asked me for some information and then sent me a proforma invoice, with instructions on how to make a wire transfer to the company's bank account. I did that, to the tune of $1200.

I have only been able to contact Mr Lee once since that time, about 2 weeks ago. He confirmed that the funds had reached their account, and that they needed 2-3 days to get the items into their warehouse at which time they would DHL them to me. Subsequent repeated email to him, and to any and all other email addresses for the company on their web site have gone unanswered.

I can only conclude that I have been played as a sucker.

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH Micro-Semiconductor.com in Hong Kong!

We are going through this type of problem again and again...
Buying from the sellers with a questionable reputation... Only because it is cheaper?
What world people are living in - not knowing what's going on in this world?

The only remedy I can suggest to try is to go to your bank and to file a complaint
against that vendor, for that amount of money.
By all means prepare the printout of this thread and all the relevant entries to
demonstrate that they really are the scammers.

Also check the Att. Gen. sites to see if they can handle the situation like this (protecting
the American citizen against the foreign entity)...

I have done it with my bank against one local unscrupulous business, and successfully.

There are a LOT of these companies with an address in Hong Kong.
Except that they are not HK operators, but mainland Chinese using an address in Hong Kong to give an impression that they are trustworthy.
There is NO real demand of electronics components in HK these days.
And DIYer's in HK also buy from Mouser / DK whenever they can.

And now, we have even dealers in the EU selling fake parts.
And they claim that they don't realise that thosr are fakes.
But at least you have a better chance of getting a refund.

If something is NLA, you take your chances, period. Regardless of seller or location. You just have to decide if it’s worth the gamble. I’d never gamble with a large sum of money. Twenty or thirty bucks, sure if it suited my purpose and if it’s “that or nothing”. Most times you simply redesign around what you can get - including buying a matched pair of speaker drivers that are in production instead of one miserable tweeter or something.

Real Estate in Hong Kong is expensive, and the drivers would be in a cheaper location.
Nobody stores dead stock in Hong Kong, cost of living is more expensive than Manhattan in prime locations.

You should have used a COD or escrow payment system, or L/C, which is safer than most.

If it is a scam, you will get the money back with difficulty, if at all.

Why on Earth did you not buy similar drivers from other sources locally?
Peerless is one among equals, Dayton, JBL, and other sources exist.

If they do not provide merchant services then they are barely a trader. Credit card swipe fees are near 2.25%, a company selling moderately high value consumer items should have merchant services. The very best thing about owning a credit card is the ability to initiate a chargeback for reasons of not receiving goods, damaged goods or not as described goods. Caveat emptor!
I took a look at their website, there is a giveaway at the bottom of the home page, for such a comprehensive and professional looking site the usual social media links at the page base go absolutely nowhere but the about page, no twitter, facebook or anywhere else.

At least for the particular driver I was interested in purchasing these other brands did NOT offer anything comparable. JBL? Are you kidding me? Don't be so glib when you don't know what you are talking about. I'm rather sad that Peerless is shut down, actually. I have owned a few very good drivers from that brand over the years.

But you are right about the other stuff you posted. I should have been able to pick up the warning signs. I was too excited that I might get the last few drivers available at a very, um, "reasonable" price. Some thing are just too good to be true! Did I mention that I needed eight of them?
