I made a longer more thorough psot before but the forum somhow didnt post it. SO here it is AGAIN but wuick. I have a small sing in my 175watt mh. I hear the lower watt MH bulbs make muchless UV than higher ones. Make sense. THe ding is in the outer UV filter envelope. Very small and facing the cooling fans not the front image. Is it safe. It passes through many lenses and lots of glass before being seen. And the back part isnt reflected. Heres my working setup can be seen with lights on at 5' image but not real bright. Looks great in semi-to dark room. Havent tried it pitch black yet and dont need to-hehe. So is it safe?

PS> lost my password casue I changed net provider lost email account etc.. Some of you may remember me. I used to be Tinker round these parts long ago.

When I picked up my lamp yesterday, the lighting guy told me that the 400 W was the "safest" size. He said the smaller wattages sometimes exploded as they aged. Alot of the companies using these smaller bulbs place plastic shields around them.

If in question, I would replace the bulb.
