I need some advice
I want to use the standalone Dac converter XDAC V3 from musical fidelity whith my pc. the problem is that the soundcard embedded on the motherboard has an spdif output, but it is not connected to an external coax rca output.
From the instruction manual of the motherboard (see photo enclosed) I suppose that a coax output can be connected using pin 5 to ground and pin 3 (labeled spdif) connected to the center wire of the coax cable, it is correct?
and, this way, the output inpedance are the 75 Ohms that the XDAC likes?

by the way, has anybody tried the inexpensive new outboard converter from MF, the VDAC?

Yes, that would seem to be the correct way to connect the output to your DAC.
Assuming that the motherboard manfacturer adheres to S/PDIF standards, yes. I don't think that the optional bracket with the RCA connector(s) will have anything else than wiring and connectors.
Note that the AC3 audiostream from DVDs through the S/PDIF output will only work on suitable (Dolby Digital) decoders. Most likely the audiostream on S/PDIF will be 2ch (stereo) @ 48 kHz as default, so that should not be a problem.

I've made the connection and the DAC locks, and there is sound
but...
there is a strange and nasty digital noise with the music, not a hiss, click or so on, but something related to the music, at a lower level.
it depends on the track of music, most of them have it, but not all.
some of them are mp3, other are flac, or wav, and it happens with several players, winamp, vlc, wmp...
in a nut shell, I haven't found a correlation between noise and filetype or player.
any help?
by the way, when the noise is absent, the sound is really incredible compared with the pc soundcard!
