on some of the "grow light" metal halides, used for growing cellery and lettuce in your closet...
the arc is so long you lose the advantageous effects of a point light source, which is optimal for a projector, some would probably say to go minimum 1000 watt opn those just to brute force the light through your optics

the arc length of the bulb shown is for the sodium bulb...
i got one just like this and use a 400w mh and it is bright as hell
the mh bulb that will come with it is very likely to be of the same type as this guys http://kickme.to/diyvp

Yeah that was a nice projector but the arc Length on that 400watter his HUGE.
Probably about half the light output of that bulb is being used to wash out the screen! The more point your lightsource is the less divergent rays you'll have.

Oh did we mention that the arc length is too long???
Let's make this thread useful. Does anybody know of any online stores that sell decent 1000w (and 400w) metal halide bulbs that would be suitable for diy projectors?

Sorry about the quality of the images but i am crap at taking shots in the dark with a digital camera...anyway using a 400w MH like the one that fits into the fitting shown in the auction these were preliminary results....still at the preliminary stage til i get paid at the end of the month 🙁
