Oh, these are definitely not "disco" party speakers, I don't think they are meant to be. They would definitely not bring concert levels to any but the smaller rooms. But the bass is actually much stronger and satisfying than my fostex FE206E's in the same enclosures (voigt pipes). As the article says, they excel with jazz and rock. I suppose by definition of Full range, these seem to be closer than most as they extend in both the high and low directions more than most in the size range.

According to google that's over $100 USD per driver, plus shipping. Are they that much better than the Fostex FE103e to warrant the _much_ higher price?

I have 2 ziggies, one with Merrils 4" and the other FE103E. I actually also have another pair of Merrills 4" (I was so impressed I bought extra 3 years ago) speakers well packaged in the garage.

I would suggest FE103E to my ear is also very good. Ziggies, both of them to my ear does not need subwoofer as others suggests. I am not into rock, just jazz, popular, quartets etc.

I looked into diyparadise as well and its REALLY pricey (relatively speaking). What drew me to the Ziggy's was the comment in the 6 moons review that you could build the whole project for under 100 bucks. With shipping, just the drivers are pushing 240.

I am sorry to head Dave has passed. I also bought a pair after reading the article. Dave was overwhelmed with orders and had to get a second round of drivers made. I had a couple other projects going and never did get to the Ziggs

"I've had both drivers in my hands, and i'd pick FE103 any day even if the DCA were less $$$."

In my opinion almost anything else is better than full range fostex driver.
They just kill music and turn everything into "elevator music machines" but I'm biased -I HATE fostex FR drivers :0)
