Hey guys, just got a pair of merrill DCA 5.5s from Two Bald Guys. Says he has just a couple pairs left. While trying to design an enclosure, I decided to drop them in some old Voigt Pipes I had built for Fostex FE206E. WOW, I am truly impressed! Way more bass that the Fostex produced! And the rest of the range is great too. I don't know if I'm going to continue with a design for these or just use them in the Voigts.

You must have got the last pair because I called right after I read your post and they've got nothing. They said diyparadise is the only place carrying them that they know of.

RATS!

Merrill DCA 5.5

I bought these on a whim after reading the 6 Moons article thinking I'd use them in my workshop....but they sound so good! They may find a place in either the office or the house. I'd say they are definitely worth the trouble of going through DIY Paradise to get them. I may order a set of the DCA 4's....and try a Ziggy, which is what I wanted to do to start with.

Um... the prices on diyparadise, are they in Singapore dollars? If so, that seems a bit stiff, no? According to google that's over $100 USD per driver, plus shipping. Are they that much better than the Fostex FE103e to warrant the _much_ higher price?

Hey fishline...I think that is for a matched pair. I don't know about the DCA4's, but the DCA 5.5's do seems to be better than say the FE127E to me. However, the Fostex is more efficient. The DCA 5.5 is very smooth and goes quite low in a large enclosure. I ran Win ISD for a 2,500 in3 vented box and the results are VERY promising. Looks a bit like I might need a notch filter around 90hz, but after listening, I'm not so sure. Win ISD shows a response down to about 35hz! I'm thinking I can upsize the Ziggy for the extra volume and I may have something.
