Hello, Can anyone tell me why the Meridian MCD has a On/Standby switch. I find it a little irritating to have to leave it on standby all day, when i'm using other gear plugged in to the same socket. Can I rewire the switch. I wondered if it needed to warm up to operate well or if there was an intention to supply a remote??. Also anyone have any idea where I can download the manual?? This is the best cd player iv'e ever heard and it's donkeys years old! Thank you for any help. Barry

Unless it has valves I dont understand why they have a standby switch unless it is to save the laser and/or motors.
The info says 1984 so I suspect its something to do with the laser. I believe the lasers dont last as long if they are constantly powered up.
Hi Nigel, thanks for your help. Phillips, I beleive, were using the same laser assy in there CD100 and CD101 and they never had standby. About the only info I can find on google is the stereophile review. Thanks. Barry

switch-off thump
Hi, my first post. I've repaired a Meridian MCD and it sounds wonderful, but there is a loud switch-off thump when I disconnect the power.
I downloaded the MCD user manual from hifiengine and it says "If you wish to unplug the MCD during an extended period of non-use, be sure to disconnect the rest of the system before disconnecting the mains plug.". So the switch-off thump appears to be a feature, which is unfortunate, because it is otherwise an excellent player.
Does anyone have a schematic of the MCD analog output stage? I have a Marantz CD63 service manual, but the MCD is significantly different and has no muting relays.
