I've got some 866's, they are cool tubes, other than the warmup, which is a little pain to design in.. no big deal though.
that and theyve gotta be choke loaded, etc.
I'm not sure if the glass used is opaque to UV, or if it lets it through... don't want to be burning my eyes out

This tube is a half wave rectifier tube which take 2.5V 5A for the filament. I would rather go with the 83 rectifier tube instead.
With this kind of mercury vapor tube, please don't forget to add a standby switch for delaying the HT applied to the tube. It needs some warm up time.

An 83 can't do 10kV though 😉
What kind of amplifier you want to go with? 10kV power supply is only good for the broadcast transmitters.
I believe you need to be more practical.

Those are used for powering max legal (+) ham rigs. A bit excessive for most audio applications. And, no, glass is not transparant to UV. "Fused quartz", however, is quite transparant to UV, which is why Hg vapor lamps require shielding.

Mercury Rectifiers are bad news!
Dont waste your time with mercury rectifiers. Those of you that think solid state rectifiers are a problem should try mercury! You can see the trash on a scope!

Coolest MV out there. Whole globe glows. Only issue with MV is they are noisy, thus I use vacuum type rectifiers. Of course, the noise or sometimes called 'hash' can be filtered out.
I hear what you are saying.
So many people here praise vacuum rectifiers and I cannot understand.
The poor regulation, of vacuum rectifiers, can cause intermodulation distortion.
It is a waste to light a filiment to create DC.
An LC network can easily remove rectifier byproducts.
