I attended a gig yesterday, and I saw something unexpected (in CZ). Two large MEHs (90x60? degrees, 4x15", some mids and a large compression driver, BC coaxial if I should guess), most probably home made (no labels) with two bandpass or more likely tapped horn subs per side. Unfortunately, the sound guy was busy and I had to leave early, so I could not have a chat with him.
The sound was really great, the coverage was phenomenal, the kick drums kicked, female vocals great, growling perfect, metal guitars just awesome. The amp lights were barely blinking, lots of reserve in power. I caught myself listening to the speakers from different locations more than actually listening to music🙂 I have lost all my doubts whether I should build large MEHs for my cellar room / man cave. I will only make them lighter with less drivers as I do not need extreme SPL.
Not ready yet to give up my front horn subs, but I definitely need to try some tapped horns as well.
