well i thought it was asked a 10000 times, but i searched pretty long, and could not fin it 🙁.
well i am bussy to mate an esl for the highs to a magnepan bass. i am at the moment playing with dampening to completly remove the mebrane resonance from the esl. and this works pretty well if i mic real close i can see whats happening but then i know the bass i get that close is not the bass i get from the pannels 1 meter away. so i measure 1 meter away. but then it does not look flatt anymore, i can understand a rolloff thats not a problem, but i get allot of peaks and dips. so its not verry reliable this way.
anyone having sugestions how to propper measure the response without having a complete dead room for it ?, also if there are no peaks and dips in the close measurement can i presume there are no weird peaks in the farfield either ? (if it the room did not interact. they are there when i measure in the room ofc) i know it will rollof because of the cacelation but thats a gentle roll not a shark teeth.

here they are,, dont mind the peak in the 15 k range, its the sound card and i changed resistor from 1.2 ohm to 2 in one of the measurements
the blue one is close as you prob noticed and red is 1 meter away. with allot of floor bounces i think.
as you can see the resonance is pretty much gone.

Wow, this is a very nice flat response! What type of ESL is that? Is it with a ribbon or just the ESL alone?
thats a close measurement, so the bass will roll of much sooner. what is funny is this is raw response. no flatening or anything. just raw data. but as you can see the red curve is not that nice. Also the small hump in 10K is not nice either 🙂 the 18 k is the soundcard 🙁

membrane 8 x 13 cm, spacer distance is 1 mm, total size is 15 x 10 cm. measured on axis of axis highs will drop ofc 🙂
