I love the blue McIntosh VU meters. I have seen other posts where people have wondered how to duplicate the effect. Last night an idea dawned on me...
A few months ago, my wife and I were at a Parallax gathering and someone was showing a very impressive display of Electroluminescent Wire, a product that had been completely under my radar. We brainstormed a few projects where we could use the stuff but the projects never went any further.
Fast forward to last night. I was on Make magazines website and I saw mention of Electroluminescent Sheets: Electroluminescent papercraft
Has anyone played with this stuff to recreate the effect of the McIntosh meter?
I'm thinking I would need to start with a largish VU meter and then modify it with the EL sheet and probably a thin transparent overlay with the logarithmic power layout. Does anyone have any thoughts?
