Hi...I have a pair of Avid 103's but one of the tweeters is blown...I have found avid 102 tweeters on eBay but no 103's..are they the same size ?...if not what would i replace with ?...thanks...Detoitjimmy
Hmm..looking at the pictures of Avid 103 on the net, it seems that the tweeter was very popular in those years ( probably a Philips ? ) as I've seen it on other speakers.
Just measure the outer flange diameter and the distance between the holes for mounting, plus the magnet diameter for the hole in the box, and you're done!
( NO ! Wait ! there's the electrical and acoustical side of the component, not only aestethics ) I guess that any modern tweeter would outperform that old one, in the price range 15-35 $...probably more if the flange is full metal and the dome can reach 20000 Hz and beyond

thank you Picowall....I am a neophyte...would you suggest a modern pair of tweeters that would suffice the specs ?
Specs ? which specs ? 😱🙂
Just an 8 Ω voice coil and 1 " dome.
Many - many-many...just browse the PartsExpress catalogue
Or Madisound ...It doesn't need to be super-super but "sufficient".
Fs - Resonance frequency - It doesn't need to be very low ( below 1 kHz )
1-2 kHz Fs should be ok for a tweeter working from 3.5 kHz and up
Sensitivity- usually in the range 88-90 dB/W/m ( it means that when the tweeter is fed with 1W it produces a measured SPL at 1 meter on axys )
Sensitivity is most important 'cos it allows you to mount a different tweeter that has similar output without changing resistors in the crossover circuit.
Ferrofluid ( inside the gap, it blocks sudden movements !😕😱 )is also important, depending on crossover.
I was to say something simple like this
Dayton Audio DC28FS-8 1-1/8" Silk Dome Shielded Tweeter
It's a little bigger ( 1 and 1/8 " ) and has the magnet shielded.
another one
Dayton Audio DC25T-8 1" Titanium Dome Tweeter
The dome is not silk but titanium ( coating ).
It's more efficient, > note the 93 dB sensitivity data
and it's smaller, has a plastic flange, which provides a waveguide to the dome.
Wait for other recommendations, as there might be people who know a good replacemt that fits

That is indeed a Philips tweeter. Pull one and give us the numbers off the back… should be something like AD0160/8. I have a stack of these. If i have the right model, you could have for the cost of postage.

Picowallspeaker...so you see these specs and the pic....does your Dayton DC25-8 1"titanium dome tweeter work ?..maybe i will replace both....I am in Chicago and there are some good techs at Saturday Audio on Belmont...thank you...
That is not at all what i expected given pictures of the Avid 103 on the interweb, can you post a picture of the front?

just uploaded so you should see post shortly....back in 60 minutes....I just need them working....would your suggested Dayton's soundbetter ?
Um, that certainly does not look like the 1"tweeter I remember the 102/103 having when I sold those.... Looks more like a midrange.
