Hello class d crowd,
Anyone try these out, MAX98400A-MAX98400B.
I was looking at the app note/eval design and I like the setup. Even the speaker setup is nice, take that big $ Bose Wave 🙂

pcb is very small, but they did make it 4-layer.
I checked the prices and compared to a part that I am currently using, TPA3100D2 and was quite surprised. Spec's look comparable. I do like the sound of the TPA3100D2 and I know that TPA3116 series exists, so any ideas, experiences.
Eval pcb is available but only 2ch from Digi-Key

The eval board for these parts is actually four channel. It uses two IC's. one in filterless mode the other with filters. I've used these in several product designs. I find them a little less "steely" sounding than the TI parts. A lot of that could be output filter related though.

I agree lots of factor controlling sound quality. I have only used TPA3100D2 and I find it pleasing driving some hi-end 4ohm bookshelf speaker, Dynaudio Gemini. Speakers are worth a consider amount more than the PA! Even sounds ok with crap speakers.
I used Murata shielded coils as it is difficult to get parts out of Toko, unless you want to buy lots of them.
