I bought MathCad 2001, and it seemed to install okay (OS: Windows 2000 Pro). When I try to open Martin King's worksheets, I get the message, "Document failed to open." I can create new worksheets, save and open them. There's something about Martin's files it doesn't like.

I got one of them to open. It's the "TL Version 6" TL Closed End.mcd.
Any ideas?

Dave,
I have never heard of this problem. Three suggestions.
1) Try downloading a file from the MathSoft site (www.mathsoft.com) and see if you can open it and have it function.
2) Try re downloading my Version 2000 worksheets and see if it does any better.
3) Turn off Norton anti-virus Script protection and see if that helps.
Is your computer configured as a US machine? The European comma as a decimal point convention drives MathCad nuts.

I'm trying to find a file on that web site to down load. However, I have saved and restored other files. And there's one of your MathCad 6 files that appears to load okay.
Did that. No luck.2) Try re downloading my Version 2000 worksheets and see if it does any better.

It's not running.

I have no reason to believe it's not configured as a US machine. It's lived all its life in California, which is close to the US. 🙂
Maybe we should take this offline. I'm at djones (at) innovativerobotics (dot) com.
I am experiencing the same problem as Dave does with my MathCad 11 (german). When trying to open one of Martin's files, I get the error message ""Fehler beim Öffnen des Dokuments.", which means exactly "Document failed to open." With MathCad 8 Explorer, and my machine configured as an US machine, the files are working. But MathCad Explorer is rather castrated, so I want to use Martin's files with MathCad 11.
Any hints?
Thank you,
Robert

The only hint I can give you is that with Excel, certain programs cannot be run unless Excel is put into the English version. These programs are located in the FRD consortium and are Excel based. They dfon't wortk with French, only English version. Fortunately, you can set the French version to be an English version.

Maybe try putting MathCAD into the English version, if that is possible?

Here is that thread on Excel and French version. I have no idea if this is adaptable to MathCAD or not.

Err, by an chance you didn't mean "constricted", did you?

I did not even manage to open Martin's files. The error appears already while loading the files. Configuring my machine as German, or as English (US) makes no difference.
In German, "castrated" is colloquial for "contricted". I did'nt know, that you don't use "castrated" in this way.

A) You know about MathCAD, Martin King's files and Norton Anti-Virus, correct? You have to go through a script disabling process for the files to work with MJK's program. Simply clicking off Norton anti-virus will not do it. I have outlined the script disabling process in this thread, complete with illustrations. It sounds complicated, but really takes about 30 seconds. 🙂
Here is the illustrated process in this thread:
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=20890
B) When using MathCAD Explorer, it is necessary to let MathCAD install itself in it's own folder, which will be Program Files/MathSoft. Did you download MathCAD 11 or get it from a disk? Either way, perhaps it is necessary to let the MathCAD 11 install itself in the folder it wants to go into, not to create a folder for it. That was the problem with Explorer, and maybe it is a problem with MathCAD 11.
C) Now that you have MathCAD 11, have you uninstalled MathCAD EXplorer demo? Just a guess, but maybe they are interfering with each other.
D) From Martin King's website: "Note : A few European countries denote a decimal point using a comma (not a period) and this convention is defined in the set-up of the computer. If you live in one of these countries, and the MathCad worksheets fail to function properly, please check to make sure that your computer recognizes a period as the decimal point. I have encountered this problem a few times over the past two years and it is easily solved by changing the computer set-up to recognize the period."
Isn't Germany one of those "comma countries", LOL? 😀

Cossert:
Finally, you might have noticed that Martin King has two versions of his worksheets. One for use with MathCAD Explorer Demo, the other apparently for use with the full version of MathCAD. Have you been trying to use the demo version of Martin King's worksheets on the full version of MathCAD?
If so, try downloading the "MathCAD 2000" worksheets and see if they work any better.

The MathCad 8 and 2000 versions of the worksheets are identical only saved in different versions. They were both created at the same time using MathCad 2000 Pro. They both can be open and run using MathCad 11 (I am using this version now) without any problems.
kelticwizard's advice and trouble shooting is exactly correct and I could not have explained it any better.
Thank you kelticwizard!

Heureka!
At last, I found it.
I have to switch my German MathCad itself to the English user surface to work with Martin's models.
Bye,
Cossart

One more time?
Hi,
I've posted about this problem, but just found this post. (I really did initially search...)
What did you have to do again? I dont understand the "English user surface"???

nicolas

If you don't get an answer soon, I suggest you start a thread on the Everything Else forum on this issue.
I think your question will be more visible there.
