Guy up here was salvaging the last of the BIG trees, slabbing, and selling on the roadside. Charging tourist prices, sold a few, went broke. The guy built this house was at the close-out, got several large (3'x7') slabs. One he laboriously(!!) finished into a breakfast nook, and is still in our kitchen. That is 3" thick and I would not say it has "tone", less than a chunk of plywood (we got lots of that too). HEAVY!! Three more are in the chicken shed, un-planed, going nowhere. Actually we dragged (HEAVY!!) one out to be the shed ramp. Is a shame that a once-$600 slab sits in the rain, but it walks nice, and we were never going to get the gumption (and tools) to make it nice.
