My Naim amp uses 2 npn output transistors in a complimentary pair arrangement for each channel. I need to repace them. Do I need to try to find matched pairs ?
No.
The output topology you describe is termed 'quasi-complementary' because the two devices are alike, rather than complementary. It is used because it is marginally cheaper, and in fact was a hangover from times past when true NPN/PNP complementary pairs were rare and very expensive.
No matching is required until you use two NPNs driven from the one driver, or two PNPs driven from the one driver, or, as is usual, both.
