Just picked up a used pair of Martin Logan Aerius i towers. One of the panels sounds faint and is about 20% as loud as the other. Both woofers sound fine (a little muddy for my taste but I'll upgrade later).
I removed both mylar panels and cleaned with distilled water. THis made a great improvement to the functioning panel but had no effect on the faint sounding panel.
Is this likely and issue with the crossover, power supply, or the driver?
I am not afraid to do repairs my self, but am not familiar with the common problems or troubleshooting this type of speaker.
Any thoughts?

Put the bad panel in the good speaker.....find out if it just the panel....if the good panels sounds the same in bouth....it the panel!............it most likely the panel...

Ok, I did that. It's the panel, or more specifically the lower half of the panel. I understand the panels can be refurbished with some sort of gluing process? Any info on this theory? Manufacture date was 1997.
The panels wear over time. Humidity and dust accelerate this process. Contact the manufacturer about replacement panels. This can be done at home. Unfortunately, they are not cheap.
Have you tried giving them a shower? I had a pair and with a good sub and crossover they can sound great.
I did shower them, but still no sound from bottom half of one of the Mylar drivers. I suspect the copper strip has separated from the Mylar. I will investigate soon.
@adiomagnate. DId you modify the existing crossover or buy one? A agree the subs are only so/so quality. any replacement recommendations? I've liked Focal in the past but that was 15 years ago.

It may be possible to very carefully peel apart the ESL sandwich along the long edge where the wires are soldered to inspect the copper strip and improve its contact to the diaphragm. Keep us posted!
In the worst case, Russ at justrealmusic can refurbish the panels. Don't even ask ML for a price.... ($$$$)
I saw a thread about using elmers glue and black ink to coat the panels, I suspent to reduce resistance. Any thoughts or success stories?
I used an electronic crossover and a VMPS Larger sub. That floor mounted woofer does NOT sound good. I used a 12 dB/8ve xover at 90 Hz. The improvement was huge. It made the MLs sound so much better all the way to the top. With a great sub and maybe some ribbons on top these are very hard to beat.
