Hi Jaffrie,
Sorry, I was replying to ridikas. What manufacturers used the ML transport, and which transport was that? I haven't heard of any referred to by that name. Just curious.

Don't know if it was mentioned already, but my data shows the ML #31 uses the CDM-4 Ind Metallic or maybe called the CDM-4M, not the CDM-4 plastic version.

Couldn't agree more. How about saying that you want to add a tube (or valve) stage? I find the use of the word "Lampizise' extremely annoying. That person's web site is chocked full of horrors and misinformation. Lots of good equipment destroyed.
I know this is a DIY site, but I'm inclined to say, leave well enough alone. These are very well engineered sophisticated pieces. One wrong move and you have an expensive boat anchor. There is little tech support for these products and a lot of the parts are getting hard to find. Be wary of refurbished laser in particular.
If you want tubed output, make an outboard buffer.
Hi George,
Just how much of that "Ind Metallic" transport is metal anyway? The sad thing is, composite materials can be more stable than a cast and milled part. Especially the cheap cast parts.
I think I've only ever seen metal CDM-4 transports (could be mistaken). The first plastic one I ran into were the CDM-9 transports.

Hi Dan,
Well, "that guy" carves them up pretty well. When he gives something his full treatment, it isn't sale-able anymore. Such a shame, then he boasts about what he's done. One wrong move and you have an expensive boat anchor.

I have a CDM-4/36 in an early-1990s Philips LHH-500.
Many CDM transport variants shown here:
hifi-advice.com - Inside Classic Philips and Marantz CD players
I wouldn't take as gospel that page's list of specific transports and DACs used in a given model of CD player. My LHH-500 definitely does not have a TDA1547, for example. But the CDM pics are a good browse.
