Not much to do on this amp:

-improve the power supply (larger transformer + bid elcos) + bypass capcitors on IC power pins gives better bass and slightly iomproved sound clarity
-changing the input electrolytic caps for MKP or Silmic improves also a bit further
-bypassing the input switching board and tone seection board byhardwiring directly the CD input to the board also improves the sound.

I send you by e-mail the schematics of the PM6010F (in pdf) which are strictly identical to the PM-66SE schematics I have in paper form.

Personal advice: best is to keep the case and put two TDA7293 ICs inside....

About TDA7293, you CANNOT run 4 ohm speakers with a single one, i did this and then this bass note hit and that caused the ic to literally explode, i used 35+vdc.

They need to be two in paralell with 25-30vdc absolute maximum to be able to run 4ohhm loads, for 8 ohm you can run 35vdc power supply.

See my TDA7293 amp:
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

From the number of reports of blown thermal fuses in this thread, increasing the the bulk capacitance or uprating the rectifier diodes is asking for trouble with this amp. Anything that makes the diode conduction shorter and more peaky is going to make the transformer even hotter.

Hi - I'm another one new to this - my PM-66SE is currently lying in pieces on the floor, I've bought some electrical bits and bobs to test it with and now haven't got a clue what I'm doing.

If somebody still has a copy of the schematics could you mail them to houli2001@aol.com.

I'll upload them to my web site and post a download link if someone can send them through.

Thanks

What a coincedence 🙂

Mine broke sometime ago as well... And I started to think even to upgrade it after repairing it...
However today one of the caps exploded :hot:
And now I am even in worse state then I have started...

Does your Pm-66 turns on at all ? i.e. the led is on, but it doesn't click...

Hi Tim,
Of course, the value of whether it's worth it or not also depends on how much value you are willing to place on the educational value. It's only a mistake to fix it if you don't learn anything. 😉

Hi Kajman,
If I had one or more, I could fix it (them). The answer to your question depends on your experience and test equipment available. The schematic is also necessary sometimes. Your skill will also steer you away from fake parts for the most part (we all get stuck with them sometimes).

If you don't have much experience you may have someone you know who can help. You can ask questions on the board too. But you need to know enough to understand the answers given.

Hi Kajman,

Ok Chris convinced me to go on with the reapirs, therefore I decided to gove it another go 🙂

I will update the comunity with my progress here.
But may be we can help each other, what kind of problems do you have with your amp.
