Just picked up a PM66SE yesterday from ebay, that was meant to be in full working order, however, upon powering up, it then clicks on and off randomly, I can sometimes hear sound for 5 or 10 mins, then it clicks, no sound, clicks again and it returns

Taking it to a local audio repair man today, hopefully it turns out to be a chepish fix as the amps are not worth that much anymore

Voulme is a bit weak

Hi all
I bought the Marantz PM 66 SE KI today.
The amp sounds nice, however I require to rotate the volume control over half, otherwise the sound is too weak.
I know this amp is only 50W for 8 Ohm but it still is it normal?
I am using it to drive my Morel Octave 5.2M speakers

Marantz pm66se KI - where to source parts??

Hi all. Pretty new to the site. Ive had a few problems with a Ki i recently purchased on ebay as a repair job but I may be nearer to solving the riddle of why its not working to its full potential. After some work I have discovered the following:
For a start both pairs of output transistors need replacing.
The original transistors are 2SA1265 & 2SC3182 made by Toshiba who no longer make them.
The transistors in the PM6010 ARE 2SA1941 & 2SC5198,again made by Toshiba,
I have checked the characteristics against the others
and they are nearly identical so these will do,but again I cannot find a source.
Another pair with nearly
identical characteristics are made by Fairchild,
these are FJA4210 & FJA4310 as far as I know these are still made
but I cannot find a source. Also the pre-amplifier IC may need replacing,
it's getting hot,but this may be due to the faulty output transistors.
This is a AN7062,18pin dil plastic package. The pcb has had some work done on it but is generally okThe problem I am having is sourcing the parts I need to start replacing the bits that are knackered. Any help from you guys - the people in the know - would be warmly received. I just wanna get this amp fired up and running!

Best,
Ian

Bought mine with my student grant 1996 I'm listening to it now its my desktop rig .. they go for £150 on ebay and I dont know why you would sell it , it fantastic, I have paid £600 for my living room amp and in all truthfulness its as good.. crazy they are real gems. Oh yeah I had to replace the power button and volume control .. but for 16 years old it just gets better lol ..although I might replace some bits if I could find a decent schem .. but im not pushing to do it..someone put alot of effort into tuning this amp but maybe some new parts might sort of re vamp it, for me the bass is alot weaker.. but I might just be getting old and a bit deaf lol ..

Take a good look at the main power supply electrolytics. These dry out or leak with age and the first sign is weak bass

Will do daivd , I noticed another thread about modding the amp , so I'll see what he replaced them with , also I have downloaded the schems from the link. But I'm not that much of a engineer I have build a cmoy and some crossovers , so it all looks like gobbledy gook to me lol

The primary winding incorporates a thermal fuse, so that fuse is likely blown, resulting in infinite resistance for primary. Some transformers (older Technics from 70's, for example) have an extra wire to bypass it, but it is impossible to determine it from the schematics. In case your transformer has just two wire for primary and no other connectors - that's it. Either replace transformer with appropriate substitute or repair it, preferably not by yourself. It can be costly though.
