Hi all...
I got a bargain from ebay that arrived in the mail today, a Marantz CD72 (original, not MKII or SE) that has a Trichord Clock 2 and PSU inside - all for £20 plus postage 😀
Snag is, the CDM4/19 has seen better days... the top part that clamps onto the CD was snapped (i've fixed that care of a donor Philips CD850), but the tray is VERY clunky when opening and half the time doesn't shut fully... now, I know its the gear / cog that has gone (can see it) and have a donor one in the CD850 that works perfectly...
...Snag is, i'm not sure how to get in to replace it... I can take half of the front of the transport off, but not enough to be able to take the transport fully out of the player, and am generally not too sure how to reach that geared cog to replace it...
Sorry if this has been covered before, I did search and came up with some references to that cog, but not how to install it...
Any advice or useful links will be VERY aprreciated 😀
Thanks

Hi Duncan,
IIRC the front must be taken of to be able to get the transport out. I hope you'll be able to fit everything back in.
If you are not confident with mechanics, make sure you have a big table and put all parts in a logical path and that at the end, work in the opposite direction 😀
All the best,
Audiofanatic 😉

Audiofanatic...
Spot on.. the fronts did need to come off... the Marantz is now working perfectly, but I couldn't put the tray back together on the donor philips...
Nevermind... the better player is working fine now, and I have a spare CDM4 😀
Thanks a lot!

Hi Duncan,
How nice to hear that the player is working.
I hope it'll be what you expect, sound wice! You must use a discrete or nice OPAmp after the DAC, and a new clock, the original ones are really bad.

Hiya...
The clock is already taken care of (Trichord & PSU)
There are 5 op-amps that I can see. three NE5532s and two NE5534s (nearer the cerafines) - well, their JRC clones at least.
OPA2604 & OPA627 seems likely candidates 😀
again, thanks 🙂

Clock's, I still hear them ticking!
Hi Duncan,
Again, the clock is IMHO "the most important upgrade" and if you want to get more out of the player, take out the Trichord and use a KC-8 or 7 or a Tent XO. You'll thank me later 😉
This forum is full of nice and great working IV you can build.
