I've been too happy with the sound of my system to have the urge to tweak for a while. I took some my my favourite CDs to a local dealer on the w/e and auditioned an ultra high-end setup there. There were some impressive aspects to the sound, but it wasn't as enjoyable overall. I can't put my finger on exactly why, and I suppose it doesn't matter.
Sounds like the mods are doing the business if your system compares well to a high-end set-up... well done! I think one gets greater satisfaction if you've done it yourself.
I still need to fix my display and that mains hum. I tried to order a new Tx, but RS aren't responding to my e-mails for some reason.
Good luck with fixing the display and the mains hum. Maybe after 3 or 4 years or so, I'll be able to give you some advice.🙂

they just fall out once you have de-soldered all the legs
Wow, OK. In that case - yeah - do what Puffin says. I haven't used a de-soldering iron, and I have the hookup wire on the underside of my board to prove it 🙂

I'm sure listening conditions play a big part. I have my speakers further apart in a larger room with more comfortable furniture and no salesman poking his head round the door every 2mins. Also there's a certain pride that goes with having tweaked the system myself.
But yeah, it's good to be at the level where the diminishing returns of the much more expensive system are easily nerfed by the room.

Where is the "Like" button?.

I agree... we should have a like button for comments like these.
When we get used to diy and we are not afraid to experiment, suddenly "High End" machines with super high price tags suddenly stop making sence.

Well said. I couldn't agree more🙂
Someone said early on in the the forum we are all modding 63s we should stop and have a look at what a modern machines have to offer mmm bulls***t.

Just ordered a Digital multimeter and a desoldering iron from CPC... onwards and upwards... commitment has been made... the fight commences... here's to the high end... now, where's that CD63?
Putting my drink down for a minute... and here's the reality check... after all these modifications will the player actually sound BETTER or just DIFFERENT?
Incidentally, irrespective of any responses I am likely to receive, I am still up for this mods malarkey since one of my objectives is to learn how CDPs work.

Just finished recapping my 63 rubycon zlgs and oscons fitted a pair of cnc rca s do i need a resistor in series to the output?
thanks alan
thanks alan
I think it depends on your op-amps, cables, etc. My player works fine without, using LM4562HA and 0.5m solid core interconnects.
I think the resistors should set the output impedance??? but as Ben says you may not need them. Try without, if you loose something due to an impedance mismatch, put them back in ;-)
Looking @ putting some regs on the servo ic s 3x7908s and 3x7808s the pos needs low dropout am i right . Saw an earlier post saying its well worth the effort.

Ben do you have a design for an lm317 5v reg that works ive tried a few and all failures.
cheers alan . ps what part of the west mids did u come from ?.

Brents had issues with 8v regs but I've never had a problem and I've done 3 with +/-8v 79/7808 off the std power supply ;-)
If you are likely to build a big VA servo PSU then run +/-12v
