Yeh, a huge gain to be had there. MUCH more musical and less harsh and brittle, even with a cheap clock. Much better again with a C2 or similar (is there a similar??)
Thing is Alan, I quite like a lot of music that is only so-so recorded. The old cd players with 1541 DAC seem to make the most of those discs. That's partly why I use one. If the software was available I'd listen to SACD any day of the week as it should have more potential, in theory!

I modded my SA7001KI extensively and could barely tell the difference between cd/sacd. I did an SA7003 which sounded an awful lot better than the 7001 but still couldn't really hear a difference between the two formats.
I'm pretty sure that the newer sacd chipsets don't exploit the formats potential, which is a shame.

I don't have a clock but I did do the reclocking thing from tnt-audio (and the clock PSU from http://www.grønholdt.dk/diyelectronics/marantz CD63MKII/marantz.html). I want to sort out the power supply first.
What about the caps? Anybody an idea? Maybe I'll get them all back to the original setting and see how it sound.
WTF Whats that guy solder with a blowlamp you can get a cheap clock off ebay 24gbp 10gbp for a toroidial 12v o 12v job done.

I'm a long time listener, first time caller on this thread. I have a CD63KI and PM66KI, both of which I've had for 12 years and have been modding on and off for about the last 12 months. They have LM4562HA op-amps in CD and phono stage and all electrolytic caps are swapped with the best Black Gates available (mostly FK). I still have not touched HDAMs or clock.
I've been at a point for a while now where my CD player was very difficult to differentiate from my turntable. I own a few albums on both CD and record and often try a blind comparison to see if I can tell the difference. Unless there's dust on the record, I often get them mixed up.
Anyway, today I decided to remove my DC blocking caps, which were BG 220uF/25v and I'm conflicted about the change. I'm listening now and I think I can hear huge amounts of new detail but the bass seems as though it may be a bit more subdued than before and I miss it. Is this normal?

That's probably just because you have small speakers. I think what you've done is uncover a limitation elsewhere. When I bypassed those caps the bass got LOADS better, much more agile and less coloured. A huge cap on C813 will bring back some bass... better still is to do the driver op-amp regulation mods as described recently on here.
