Strange that changing to schottkies and filter caps improved the bass so much. I've heard increased detail with schottkies and a quieter background, depending what I put them in.
I'm glad you've found some happiness in your quest 🙂

Still some work to do to reach the cleaner sound of the 67
Could it be to do with splitting digital/analogue supplies on the 67? or maybe the chokes at 613-616?
Might even put the Bgs back in 🙂

Also in the cd67, the servo section is regulated 5v with it's own reg too I think. That'd really help keeping the noise away from the dac.
Is/were any of these two players clocked Ian?

Hi Ianpadman said:Quick update....
Just fitted some more shottkys and 100/120p 1% caps😀
1st impressions more detail... much more detail😀
Overall a cleaner sound, better spacial effect, ss is much wider .. Biggest improvement overall is BASS![]()
So much more bass i had to check the tone defeat was on![]()
Where did you put the 100/120p caps ?
Ricardo
Is it possible that some factory rectifiers were dead or dry solder joints so the ps caps are not loaded enough then it's lacking bass?
On the 67 i removed U203 & RD04 took supply from Q811 fed through 2 LM340T, can something similar be done on 63?
Neither player has/had clocks, PSU or decent regs 🙁 due to $$$

120s went in C601-604 Cd21-24 100s at 607/08 as per Rays page shottkys in bridge rectifier plus 851/854 I did re solder in a couple of places! maybe thats the reason for the change and not the caps

Shottkys improve detail, dynamics and reduce noise dramatically. IMO The caps can be responsible for the bass lift.

Hi guys,
take 2 CD-53, both with one Flea & PSU, schottkys and big'n good caps, LM4562.
One with Servo reclocked as best as possible with a flipflop (mine now), the other with factory filter rebuild with good resistors and styroflex (my former).
The first one has better bass but harsh and blur mids (violins sounds like withe noise!) and the rebuild filter one (and no DC caps...) sounded more relaxed, mabe less dynamic but far better textured matters. I find hard to listen too long for the player, maybe the alsmost no Rubycon ZL have no good effect... maybe maybe...
Is that normal that the filter does that much? (wich means the DOS will unveil that ready-to-sing player...) Or my waitings now have revalued by much...

Excellent stuff. The Supreme's are fantastic caps, soo neutral and detailed.
I just started work on my cd63KI again after it sitting on a shelf for about a year gathering dust. I've recently been using a highly modded cd17KI, but it cannot compete with a servo and dac clocked cd63 for detail, so I'm switching back.
Just out of interest, Ray have you ever servo clocked a cd63?I can't see a reference to one on your site.
Cheers, Lee.

No, not yet Lee. I have a 63KI here that is waiting for a new clock, and I think i'm going to build a divide-by-two for the servo, or maybe even use a second clock for it.

DIY Flea PCB avaiable
I have ordered a small production run of the DIY Flea board I designed, so an extra clock is no problem 😀.
If any of you are interested in a professionally made board, just drop me an email at diyflea at raylectronics dot nl

It's definitely worth going for the two clocks Ray. Especially if you have one already available🙂
