Hi Aram
As you see, you can bypass the hdam with the new opamp but the DOS is the way to go.
My DOS elevated my CD53 to a high end status in terms of sound quality.
Note:
Just replaced the stock 78 / 79 regs by 317 /337 in my preamp and the results are breathtaking.
I have two +-15v spowers waiting for the next mod.... than the preamp will really sing.
Regards
Ricardo

I see this as a fault or imbalance elsewhere in the system!

I do too actually, but most systems have imbalances and "faults" so it's valid IMHO to tune according to taste / requirements.

Good work, I guess you used them in accordance with the Martin Clark guidelines on his website?

Question (potentially stupid) time: I see reference within this thread to a) sregs, and b) Raygulators. Do you guys just build these (protoboard; PCBs)? I had assumed that the sregs were the Super regs from Brent?
I am in need of +/- 15V regs and had been looking at some of these as an potential option.
Thanks for any info,
Chris

Rayreg = LM317 with additional parts to improve performance
Sregs = short for Super Regulator - Brent/Sercal, Audiocom, ALW and others.
The latter is a lot more expensive, but better, than the former. Not many people DIY super regs, probably because it's quite easy to get it wrong and make an unstable circuit.. plus they use many components.

Often the SPower is refered to as the Sreg yes among other brands too which all offer varying audio quality. The Raygulators are a LM317 based home brew reg you can build yourself.

Hi Ricardo,
If I bypass the HDAM I guess I can remove filter caps C651-C654?
Also when you replaced LM340AT 5 regs, any other changes in that area? or the regs are one to one.
Simon, do you have Martin Clark a website url? I will read on 317 / 337 regs.
Thanks All again

Been thinking about messing with my CD67SE.
How can i bypass the output stage? I'd like to run it through the same valve stage im using with my PS1 so i can see how they compare.
Ive tried searching this thread but theres just too much of it!
All i really need to know is where the analogue outputs of the dac are.

The Dac output in the 63 has 4 outputs, 2 per channel and out of phase to each other.
Does your valve stage have a single ended input?

Yes, I followed his indications. As I needed +-15v, I droped the led idea (too many leds) and did it just like a Rayreg with diode and zeners.
My Meridian 101 has an opamp output stage so I believe it does not deserve the spowers I got from Brent.
I want to save the spowers I got last month for my new buffer pre..... I want something like your´s but need some guidance.
A schematic should help a lot.

It sounds wonderfull .... but I want even more..... I just can not stop...SimontY said:
Ricardo, I sometimes think you worry too much. I bet your machine sounds wonderful already.

Err 🙂
Im still very new to all this.
This is the valve stage im using at the moment but without the pot and some grid stoppers.

Im guessing thats not do-able then?
Valve Output Stage
Both Ray ( 6H5C ) and myself have played around with valve output stages.
The one you have will not work without some serious modification.
On this thread, see posts around #500 ( some before and after ).
I used a long-tail pair to convert the balanced DAC output to single ended with a "HT" of 40v using an ECC88. We both refered to this article which was very helpful. :-

The sound was very open and detailed with great bass and extension. I still have mine but Ray went on to develop the DOS using FETs.

VRef.
Rowe.
In post 578, I mentioned modding the VRef input into the servo.
Did you ever do anything with this ?

Hi Andy
Of course I added SPowers to the servo rails and also on the driver ics. I changed C124 for a BG.
I did all these servo mods at the same time so I could not really say what the vref cap did on its own.
