crippledchicken said:hi, if i were to use two brown dog adapters with ad8610/opa627au on each one, should the 627s go on ic1 on both brown dogs and the 8610s go on the bottom ic2 of both brown dog adapters or am i all confused lol!
😕 thanks again!
That's a tough one as they are VERY similar in spec. I would perhaps favour the AD8610 on top if I had to choose.
If one had markedly better bandwidth and/or settling time, that would go on top as it has to deal with higher levels of ultrasonic garbarge. That's why LM6171, AD8065 and AD817 are good here IMO. AD825 also.
question about ic505 and ic506 on67se?
using brown dog adapters to replace these ics, is ic2 bottom, considered the filter section on both brown dogs? and is ic1 on each brown dog considered what's being refered to as after the dac? just want to be sure, of what i am doing while experimenting with the opamps on this particular model. Thanks very much for any info! 🙂

Thanks mate. The caps aren't new! Bought them off Ebay as New Old Stock, ex-military I think they said. They were cheap and small for 22uF film caps! How are yours soundwise? I've not used them for coupling before.

Looks great. From where did you get the Wimas ? I have similar ones, here used as DC blockers in a prototype pre. Mine are +15 years even closer to 20 years old. Don't say that they are new!

Thanks very much! will make my testing much easier now.avr300 said:Correct, IC1 is PWM conversion, IC2 is filter.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Diodes
They are cool. As I said, at least 20 years old, and prob. even older. They sounds great, but they were only there for safety. When I measures 0v DC, they went out.

Ok, thanks! Certainly good enough till I feel like spending £20 on something possibly better.

Hi Guys,
Sorry for off topics,
What I prefer:
A. New PSU for DAC only, included analog and digital with separate regs supllies for ana. and digital ? or....
B. New PSU for analog section (DAC,Servo,Decoder) and new PSU for digital section (DAC,Servo,Decoder)
Regards
aquar

Hi Aquar,
I got good results from a new psu for the dac with 3 seperate superregs (plus psu for clock).
Didn't try option b
Regards
Pete
Its always best to run each voltage rail with its own reg. Seperate psu for each of the regs pushes things even further.

Do you mean 1 PSU for digitals and analog ? (w/ separate superregs)

Why ?

Hi Brent,
So I will need 6 PSU for DAC,Servo and Decoder ??
BTW: tks for your quick reply

4 for DAC is worthwhile - you can separate L & R for analogue.
I actually have 5 as I have a pre-reg for the digital and inverter gate regs (this was worthwile when they were all fed from the same source as the rest of the player which they no longer are in my player).
Probably overkill but if you're using cheap ones (7805 or LM317) you may as well add one more and separate L & R.

I just used the one for the dac ana as its fed with a Audiocom Invisus and its own psu with BG caps.

That's intense Glenn. Have you sorted the servo and decoder chips out too? They're clearly important for sonics as well!
Your player must be one of the most treated around here - have you compared it to any expensive stock cd players?

I've only used bog-standard jelly-bean parts so seemed a no-brainer to put quite a few in. If I was using superregs then I wouldn't have been so free and easy!
I use the tx analogue winding for the dac (as not used for analogue stage anymore). LM317 down to about 12V, feeding two more LM317 for 5V for DAC digital bits. Also, two 5V LM317s for DAC analogue fed but these are not fed from the pre-regulator.
The original 7805s are still there. One feeding servo amps (remember it's a 67) and one feeding the CPU.
There are two more 7805s, one for decoder analogue and one for decoder digital. I think the analogue one is fed on to transport PCB. The TENT clock has it's own regulation and transformer, as does the Zapfilter.
So not as overkill as yours or Brent's!
I've not compared it to any expensive players, no.

Mine'll be better with the new output stage in but as it stands, yours would be competing very well indeed! My additional transformers add some lovely bass weight. Most people don't have this 😉
Are you going to the UK DIY Audio meet in Chesterfield next month? I will take my CD63 to show there.
Simon
Chesterfield - I can't make it 🙁
OTT is it, simon will tell you if its OTT
If you want hi end you have to spend money on the nice items, its the only way you can push it far
