Hi,
now that we know that pps=poly etc.
Tell us if they are worth using.
I have rarely if ever seen them at or near the top of a "recommended for audio" listing.
What characteristic do they have that makes them attractive?

Damn I've be unmasked : yes guy, I know nothing about electronics but that they do well in my CD53 =)

Yep, that's correct.

These are caps with a dielectricum that has very good properties, much better compared to X7R and MKT. Only NP0 and MKP can compete with some parameters, but they are not always available in SMD or 'big' values like 100n. I use them a lot for local decoupling, the 1913 SMD size fits nicely on the back of the PCB where a 5mm pitch ceramic used to be. I posted a table here that gives an overview.

by the way can i check how you guys remove the white tape linking the pcb to the lcd panel.
I have been soldering and desoldering with that white tape linking to the lcd all these while. 😀

That white tape is a flatcable; you can pull it out of the connector if you like. Hold it firmly on both the left and right side and wiggle it upwards a bit. Then it should come out.

Ray
so i can pull it off the side that is on the pcb right..?
Regards.
Yes it just slides out, the connector to the transport comes apart in a similar way. Just pull up the two tags either side of the transport ribbon to the main pcb.
the flat tape connecting to the transport have got a catch when u push it up it will come out, but for the one linking to the cdp i dun see any catch/lever.
Therefore i am somwhat worried if it will come of if i exert more force on pulling it.

The display ribbon to the main pcb is only a pressure fit, just gently work it out, there is no catch on that one, but there is on the player transport were it connects to the main pcb as you have rightly discovered.
Can someone sumarise the last 500+ pages into a list of popular mods that work well and should probably be done first?
I've got a 67OSE sat here doing nothing so I'm thinking of learning as I go and if I break it then tuff ****!! I'm also looking out for a CD10 as these seem to be fairly beefy transports, are they similar in anyway?
Cheers

Sorry, I didnt realise there was a sensor, none of the other forums I use has one. I just inserted a * as others seem to, at least I know for future reference

Thanks for your understanding. I'll think you'll find this forum is more suited to the thinkers than the swearers. (did I just invent a word?)

It's been said many times and I'm tired and steamed... but here's a good place to start:

Power supply work and reclocking are the two most important things to do.
Happy New Year everyone! 😉

HI.
Happy New Year
Thoughts for further mods :-
1. Tray mechanism - some other machines use modded cdm12
2. uP and front panel
Best Wishes to All

Ray,
Can I confirm with you with regards to the mod of the DAC section, CD05, 06, 12 & 13, when replaced with ecaps, do I have to take note of the polarity?
If yes, which side is the negative and which is the positive?

Hi guys,
Happy new year to all of you !!!
Yes, the polarity is important. The idea of this mod is to place the electrolytics closer to the DAC chip, and replace the 100n on the bottom side of the PCB in parallel with the electrolytic. The minus has to be connected to the ground-plane, the larger copper area that runs under the DAC and connects to U208 (U203 for a CD63).

Ray

Hi Ray,
I don't quite get it, do u have a picture of it.
Thanks for the help. Really noobish with electronics.
