Is error 12 the only error message??
Hi, yep.
If so, remove the plug from JM01 and check continuity between black and orange - if the sled is towards the rear, it should be open circuit.
Ok, will do that.
Any luck with the voltage between black and white??

I'm at work

Send it to me mate. 😉
Hey, it's not funny!! We don't all have training in electronics!! 🙄
I'm not laughing @ your player or your fault finding I'm laughing at the state of your mind.
I can imagine the turmoil you must be going through, and your anger building (like Michael Banner). 🙄

Im about to fit the coax cable.
Now the clock out from the DAC to the Decoder there is a cap or a 100 ohm resistor inline. (C521 or RD14)
Do I really need it fitted?
Has anyone tried removing it?

My CD63 only has RD14 ( 100 ohm )

Mine has a ceramic cap fitted on the output of pin 4 of Dac but the pcb says RD14 or C521

The Incredible Hulk (well before he changes)
Ahh! I see!
This is me when my cd player refuses to work and makes growling noises.
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Interesting.....
The manual says only RD14...but both the CD63 and CD43 are fitted with the small ceramic cap, C521, which is 10pF +-0.5pF 50v .
Presumably, it is to stop loading of the oscillator?? Change it to Silver-mica.

Already have mate
😉 You should know me by now
I've just checked my copy of the manual again.rowemeister said:My player has that 10PF cap (next to DAC) and a 390 ohm res (on input of decoder).
Its a KI
It would seem that a resistor was fitted to the following models :-
CD43/01B/02B/05B
CD53/01B/02B/05B/01G/02G
CD63/01B/02B/05B
C521 (10pF) was fitted to the following :-
CD53/21B/22B/25B/21G/22G
CD63/21B/22B/25B
CD63 Mk2 U, F
No difference is noted for the KI.
Rowe...does the KI board have a logo for both R & C??
Andy
Hi all,
Was just probing some parts in the player, and when I put a probe on R123 the cd started spinning and playing 😱
I guess the next step is to take the board out and check under there for a bad joint 😀

Yep. +5v to the servo chip - that could be it !!
While soldering, have a god look - there could be more!

Aye, there was more I think! I took is apart, resoldered a few joints and it stopped working again. So I took it apart AGAIN and resoldered more joints, with huge blobs of solder. I also jumpered some tracks to be sure of a solid connection. It's now playing a CD! Just need to properly reassemble it now and give it a good testing. I might stop modding it now, lol. For a few days 😉

great to hear😎
remove the old solder, then resolder😀
