This thing has aweird issue. Been through the service manual, adjusted turntable hight, power level, etc, all spot on.
However its super sensitive to scratched disks and wont hardly play, and barely plays a CD-R
Nice clean CD plays fine. However it wont seek worth a crap. If its the lower tracks its fine most of hte time. But higher tracks it just hunts and hunts and hunts. if i move the laser with my finger just to bump it along. itll lock in most of the time.
Whats stranger, is if i Stop the CD. pick a high track, and jump streight to that track its fine. But track-to-track jumps are lost.

Can you undo the bottom of the plate and have a lookouts a photo if it helps. at the CDM. See if you had a CDM-1 made in belgium or one made in japan. I had a cd74 with a CDM-1 made in Japan that would not read cd-r all that well. Look it up its on the this site. http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/digital-line-level/206575-philips-cdm-1-differences.html
I swapped out caps in the power supply and on the CDM and bammm, all was good again. Sold the player, but current owner still swears its the bomb.I even posted a question on this site about it. This is a beast of a player and one of my all time favorites. wish I had not sold.

Its not the capacitors, Yes they are old, but I already ran those through capacitance and ESR tests, along with heating/cooling tests which usually snuff out bad caps. Performance doesnt change in either regard.
The unit works fine if I let the CD play through. But if i go to seek, it gets an attitude problem at random intervals, mainly toward the upper end of the disk. If i stop the disk, pick the track, and hit play, itll jump straight to the track and its fine. But track-to-track seek is fail.
Followed the service manual and did the adjustments, They were all spot-on.
