I recently replaced the laser of an CD-67 mk ii with a VAM 1202 unit. It works ok but there is a strange situation that I encountered. If I play a CD that is longer than ~70 minutes, at the end of the disc, the laser does not return to the initial position close to the spindle (towards track 1). If I try to play the disk again, it will not spin the disc and will not play. If I replace the disk, I have the same situation. The only solution I have is to get into service mode and manually return the laser sled to its initial position in P00 by pressing the skip button. Is there a fix to this? The player reads all the disks if the laser is at its initial position close to the spindle.
Thanks,

SOLVED!!!
So I solved the mystery and I thought I would post it here in case anybody else has this issue.
I decided to buy another new laser as I had the suspicion that the one I ordered was not new (it was advertised as new). I replaced it and bingo, all worked accordingly. At the end of the disc when the playback stopped the laser returned automatically to the initial position. I then noticed that the other laser had a problem with the switch that detects that the laser head is in the initial position. The switch itself was always ON as if the head was always in the initial position. This is why the head was not returned to the initial position after playing a disk. This is a very common type of switch for laser pick-ups. It basically consists of two metal bands close to each other and when the laser sledge touches one, it pushes it against the other one closing the contact. This was deformed and the contact was always ON. Definitely not a new pick-up.
