I had a highly modified CD65 for many years, however I got sick of trying to repair all the IDP connectors, or bypassing them by soldering. You could try removing the connectors and cleaning the sockets with Isopropyl alcohol. In the earlier stages sometimes this is all it takes to restore operation for a while. Try the larger connectors on the PCB first, one at a time.

Also try squeezing the plugs tightly, and make sure that none of the leads seem loose. They also tend to oxidise. You can reterminate them by cutting back and cleaning, but it's very tedious, and sometimes easier to solder them directly to the socket pins of the faulty one. Fix that one, and a little while later, a different one will play up !

Thanks Andy

Well I'm not sure what to make of it, but it says that when moving to service mode 3 , music will be released

When I have it in mode 2 and depress the track key to move to mode 3...............nothing happens :whazzat:

Sits on mode 2 🙄

How is Brisbane?............. :hot: at the moment, It's that sticky, sweaty weather I haven't really seen for 20 odd years here, but this is how it was every year back then, violent storms and the odd cyclone in the start of the year 😀

Were you in The PA Hospital by chance?

Oh OK, I was in the PA a long time ago and my foot kept on picking up Staph infections, delaying the operation 😱

I think It's better now, the PA, not the foot 😀

The Nurses were fantastic though, back bone of the medical system 🙂

Right..................it seems to do as the guide says right up till when you press the track advance to move to mode 3.

(I can't see the beam as the disk is in there, because mode 2 can't be achieved without it in)

The disk is spinning in mode 2 and when I press the track advance the disk slows gradually and there are a couple of faint click sounds and the disk slows to a stop, no sound and the display stays on mode 2.

Oops!

Sorry for not responding sooner Xmas & all that.

Checked the supply voltage to the TDA 5709 and reading 8v, so at the base of the suggested range.

:idea:I might just refresh all the solder on the underside of the PCB and see if I win a prize that way 😀

Now to motivate myself to do such a tedious job 😛.:xeye:

Edit:😱 now looking at the underside of the PCB I don't think I'm going to refresh all that 😕
