I'm glad I kept on pushing because IC61 (BU2630) was definitely the culprit. I cycled the player about 50 times after replacing it and without exception it read the cd in a heartbeat 😀.

I'm going to let it play through some cd's and report back in case the issue has not been solved, no news means good news !

Indeed, although I think that if I had done the last measurement I mentioned, I would have focused my attention on this one sooner. I guess, because it's obsolete and I don't really like getting parts from ebay, I was just hoping the problem lied elsewhere 😱

That's often the way of things but you did everything right and ultimately reached the point where that chip had to be tried.

It's easy to look back afterwards and wonder 🙂 but the main thing is to stick to the logical approach.
