Hi all. I am new into the digital part of the forum. I came acrcoss a Marantz cd-54 and would like to know if I can tweak this unit up. It works fine and to me sounds better than what I have ever had. If any one has a service manual with a schematic included this will be a good start.

The Marantz CD54 is a version of the Philips CD104.
Many of the ideas suggested on the CD104 tweaks thread are applicable.
Do not do wholesale mods at one time.
Start with the PSU.
Replace the large PSU caps as they are now old.
Replace the rectifier diodes with schottky ones.

Service manual, anyone?
I've recently managed to acquire a Marantz CD54.
The unit works fine, with a characteristic 1540's sound signature, but it would be nice to have a complete service manual for it 😎
I would be very grateful if someone would send me a copy @ scorpioddmf at hotmail com 😉
Just to be a little more precise, CD54 is actually a lot more similar to it's bigger brothers, the CD74 and 84 - a scaled-down version if you will. Like them, it uses single-sided PCB, whereas the CD104 has double-sided ones, top layer being the ground plane. Also, some of the servo chips aren't similar...
That being said, you can use the test-points and adjustment procedures described in the CD74/84 service manual as a first aid to troubleshoot (or just adjust) the unit.
Even the key elements are labeled the same (for example, the r240 for the turntable hight adjustment).
