I am resurrecting an Marantz 3300 preamp, and I have replaced all the power capacitors with good quality Rifa Peg 124, Epcos Sicorel 125 and SIC-Safco Proreisic. All these were axial, but for the electrolytics in the signal path i used radial Elna silmic and Nichicon Muse caps. The sound is great in all the line inputs but the Phono input has a sound as if there is a curtain in front of the speakers. Is there a way to improve the sound in the phono board?

Sounds like it just has the typical Marantz sound. It is possible that you would have to redesign the entire amplifier in order to get that off.
So Marantz in this preamp made the phono input so diffrently sounding than the line input.:-(. I was hoping that a change of some caps or/and resistors would improve the sound some. Is there anyone that had an experience in tweaking the phono/riaa card in this preamp with out redesigning the whole phono/riaa input card?

make sure that semis there are working properly ...even though music might come form them that also doesn't mean that the transistor is working 100% correct
strip down the circuit and see what parts might limit bandwidth and transparency often in commercial amps rule of """ better safe than sorry "" applies
