We only really got summer within the last couple weeks. I am still plotting to get some near anechic measures. Biggest issue is figuring out how to support the mic.

clothesline?
Hi,
Why not stiffen the clothesline attaching a V shaped cord nailed in the ground front and rear of it ?

I did some experimenting with a tone generator today.
At 50Hz it was still full power. At 45 it had rolled off quite much, at 40Hz it was almost quiet.

Just tried one strand of cat5 cable for my speakers from amplifier to speakers. They're twinned so one twinned pair per speaker, and one strand for + one for -.
It works, i haven't decided yet if it's better than my other cables. But thinking of the price, cat5 cables are for free and my other cables cost ~$7/m.
Listening to some Rodrigo y Gabriela right now, and it sounds wonderful 🙂

I tried some other music with a little more bass.
With one strand of Cat5 the bass lost some definition and was weaker. Mid-range and treble appeared to improve though. Should i try with more strands or would it not help at all?

I'll give it a try tomorrow if i remember it. My dad found the wire tool thing (i was searching 30 minutes, he found it in 5 seconds) so hopefully it wont take as long time as the first pair 😛
Niklas, as suggested before, have you tried Snows of Kilimanjaro for some LF excursion on your speakers? Parts of this track does excite the CHR-70 cones in my CHR-Kens. 🙂 Would be fun to know your experience with the Mar-Kels.

Yes i've tried it. Not my favorite song. For cone excursion turn on Poem Of Chinese Drum by Hok-man Yim and Traditional on Spotify
Spotify not yet supported here... 🙁
The song you might like or might not like, but did the cones move? 🙂

I didn't see the cones move very much.
I've found some new music though. Not hi-fi quality recordings but quite good music. Animals As Leaders they are called.
zman01, you asked how my build went. Well, it hasn't, I am still working on the braces, my tools got mad and fought back so I have given them some time to think over the actions before I play with them again.
Maybe I will have them done by the end of July, I sure hope so. I am really slow in actually getting these done, but maybe by the end of July.
Lerg,
End of July is approaching 🙂 - getting ready to finish the project?
Yes, a few setbacks, but progress has continued. Almost all of the hard work is done, but I still have some work left to do before they can make sound. Final assembly and testing should be done this weekend, then I have to veneer. Hopefully I don't make a mistake with the veneering process, Zebrawood isn't cheap, and I haven't worked with full sheets before.
I look forward to them being done, I don't look forward to having to give them away.

Look fwd to hearing some listening impressions from you once you've completed the build. Best of luck!
On lengthy build times, I keep on pushing back starting Lotus^2 each time I give my CHR-Kens a listen...

Is there any pensil-type cabinet for EL70? One that is quite tall, not so wide and is easy to build and has at least as much LF capacity as the mar-kel70?
Niklas - half tower microtower (page 6 below)?
