I had that exact table but with a Grace 707 — i did install a few 3009s on some. We got a buy on a bunch (maybe 100, $80[?] each).
I wonder why the base of the SME is askew. The ERA came with an armboard precut for it and it was parallel to the sides of the board/table. We used the big washers that came with the Grace to make that into am adjustable length pivot to spindle distance.

RS232 ... great find, every bit of that type helps.
I think I can build with no total arm counterweight.
Tough to put ideas together; my personal computer turns '83 in July.
